Fiasp: Prescribed As Part Of A Treatment For Diabetes Mellitus

Fiasp Insulin is an insulin that was approved by the FDA in 2017 for treating type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This is a rapid-acting insulin that starts working faster than regular mealtime insulins, allowing you to inject it at the beginning of a meal or up to 20 minutes after starting the meal. This helps in preventing large spikes in your blood sugar due to the consumption of carbohydrates.

Important Safety Information & Side Effects:

  • Do not take Fiasp during hypoglycemic episodes.
  • Do not take this insulin if you are allergic to the ingredients.
  • Changing types of insulin and insulin strengths may affect glycemic control. Talk to your doctor about changing your dose if you are switching from another insulin over to Fiasp.
  • Insulin use can lead to life-threatening hypokalemia. Your potassium levels should be monitored, especially if you have had problems with the amount of potassium in your blood before.
  • Combining insulin with medications known as thiazolidinediones (TZDs) can lead to heart failure and fluid retention. Talk to your doctor about all other medications you are taking.
  • The most common side effects include hypoglycemia, allergic reactions, hypersensitivity, injection site reactions, lipodystrophy, and weight gain.
  • The safety and effectiveness of Fiasp insulin use has not yet been established for pediatric patients.
  • Notify your doctor and seek medical treatment if you begin to have an allergic reaction.
  • Talk to your doctor about your medical history to determine if Fiasp is right for you.

Is there a Fiasp generic available?

  • Fiasp insulin is currently only available as the brand name. Do not purchase a generic version of this medication from fraudulent online pharmacies, as the medication is illegal and may be harmful.
